CREATIVE GIFT WRAPPINGGift wrapping techniques vary as much as the size and shape of the gifts themselves. Here are some ideas to help you go from basic to wildly creative or simply elegant.
- All gift wrapping begins with variations of paper, ribbon, and decorations that add interest, whimsy or elegance.
- Two ways to wrap a rectangular box are:
- Seamless Wrap - Works best with paper and gives a clean, professional look.
- Keepsake Wrap - Works well with fancy paper or fabric. Because the cover and box are wrapped separately, the gift can be opened without tearing the wrap.
- Check out variety stores, craft stores, fabric stores, hardware stores, art supply stores, florists for unique paper, cloth and other wrapping material (like bubble packing!). Also look for ribbon alternatives such as twine, to tie a package.
- Explore paint stores for new ways to add texture to your wrap. Sponging or dry brush techniques add interest and variety.
- For a really festive look use an assortment of ribbon widths and colors. Or, use multi-colored curling ribbon rolls. You can also decorate with small balloons or other trinkets.
- Consider overlaying multiple materials to add depth and interest. For example, white lace over a flowered paper.
- Create images or patterns by applying multi-colored bows on the package.
- Look for colors that match the occasion. For example, pastels for baby gifts, primary colors for outdoors events, and so on.
- Not all boxes are created equal. Look for round, triangular, and tubular packaging for odd shaped gifts. Packing and shipping stores often such items.
- Explore nature for wrap decorations. Leaves, twigs, grasses, flowers and seeds can add depth, interest and texture.
